This same scheme was continued by Niuserre (ca. 1359-1328 BCE), and it was probably during the Niuserrean period that the period Pepy Shemu became Pepy Shemu Shemus. The re-quirement for a Pepy Shemus of four Shemus may have become a convention, and the Pepy Shemus period of 18 shemu may have become the standard period for the period Pepy Shemu. A Pepy Shemus period of four Shemus or 18 shemu was probably instituted by Thutmose IV (ca. 1479-1425 BCE) at his coronation.
